Elite Welding & Fabrication: The Coppell Owner’s Guide
Elite welding and fabrication repair in Coppell typically runs $260 to $640 installed, depending on whether you need a hinge re-welded, a mounting plate rebuilt, or a section of the gate frame fabricated from scratch. We stock common Elite-compatible weld hardware on our trucks and can complete most structural repairs in a single visit. What you’re usually looking at when you land on this page: a gate that’s started sagging, a crack running through a weld joint near the hinge, or a motor bracket that’s pulling away from the post.
Elite operators are solid machines, but they’re only as good as the steel they’re bolted to. In Coppell’s clay soil, posts shift. When a post moves even half an inch, the load transfers to the weld joints on the gate frame. That’s where cracks start. We see it constantly along North Coppell roads and in neighborhoods off Denton Tap Road – the operator still runs fine, but the structure around it is failing.
We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Elite. That matters because we can weld and fabricate whatever the gate needs without steering you toward a brand-specific replacement part that may not address the underlying structural problem.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Our welding and fabrication work covers the full Elite lineup: the SL3000 and SL4000 slide operators, the CSW200 and CSW200U swing operators, and the Legacy series that’s still running on plenty of Coppell properties. The compatibility gotcha with Elite swing operators isn’t the motor itself – it’s the mounting geometry. Elite’s swing arm bracket requires a specific standoff distance from the post, and if a previous installer welded the bracket at the wrong height or angle, the arm binds. We’ve fabricated more corrected mounting plates for CSW200 installs than any other Elite issue.
Identifying what you have is straightforward. The operator housing has a metal data plate with the model number stamped on it. The gate frame itself won’t – you’ll need a tape measure. Elite gates run two common post sizes: 4×4 posts with 16-gauge frame and 6×6 posts with 14-gauge. The heavier frame is what you want for a long service life in Texas weather, especially if the gate is anywhere near full width.
On the OEM versus aftermarket decision: for weld-in structural components like hinge plates and slide-track brackets, a quality aftermarket fabrication performed by someone who understands the load path is often stronger than the original. Elite’s factory brackets are powder-coated pressed steel. A custom-fabricated plate out of 1/4-inch A36 steel with proper gussets will outlast it. For operator-specific parts like arm assemblies and drive chains, we recommend OEM Elite components because the tolerances matter.
Signs Your Elite Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

- Cracked weld at the hinge or post. This is the most common failure we see. The crack typically starts at the top or bottom of the hinge plate where flex is highest. If you see a thin dark line through the weld bead, it’s already through the paint and into the steel.
- The gate drags on the ground or scrapes the driveway. This means the frame has twisted. Elite swing gates pick up a diagonal sag when the weld joints near the hinge post start yielding. You’ll usually see the drag start on the latch side first.
- The operator motor runs but the gate stutters or stalls mid-travel. Often misdiagnosed as a motor problem. What’s actually happening is the gate frame has deformed enough that the travel arc changed, and the motor is fighting a bind.
- A fresh rust streak running down from a weld joint. Corrosion opens the weld. In Coppell’s humidity cycles, moisture works its way into the micro-cracks and accelerates the failure. The rust streak is a warning sign that shows up months before the joint fails.
- You can see daylight through the gate frame tubing. Split steel at a joint means the weld has already failed completely. The gate is being held together by paint and inertia at that point. This is a safety issue, not a cosmetic one.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we charge in Coppell for the common Elite welding and fabrication jobs:
- Hinge re-weld (single hinge): $180-$280 installed. Includes grinding out the old weld, re-welding, and reinforcing gussets if the plate design allows.
- Gate frame crack repair: $220-$380 installed. Multiple cracks or a split tube section runs toward the high end.
- Custom mounting plate fabrication: $260-$520 installed. This is the fix for CSW200 swing arms that were installed at the wrong geometry. We cut, drill, weld, and paint the plate on-site.
- Slide track bracket rebuild: $300-$640 installed. Includes removing the failed bracket, fabricating a new one from plate steel, and setting the track alignment.
Every one of these starts with a written price before we pick up a tool. That’s Haven Standard Clause 1, and it’s non-negotiable on our end. The quote includes the steel, the welding consumables, the labor, and the paint. You’ll also get a photo record of what we found, what we welded, and what the finished joint looks like. And under the 365-Day Done Right Promise, if that weld fails within the year, we come back and make it right. No argument, no fee.
DIY or Call Us?

Welding a gate that weighs 300 to 600 pounds is not a weekend project, and a failed weld while someone is under the gate is a crush injury waiting to happen. We don’t say that to scare you off a simple fix. But the energy stored in a sagging Elite gate is substantial, and the steel will move when the first cut is made. If you’re going to check anything yourself, look at the hinge bolts for loosening and check whether the post itself has moved. If the post is plumb and the bolts are tight, the failure is in the weld, and that’s a job for a trained welder with the right equipment.
What we bring to a Coppell Elite weld repair is the full setup: a mobile MIG welder, a grinder, clamps, and a laser level to confirm the gate is square before we tack anything. It costs less than a trip to urgent care. If you’re unsure whether it’s a weld problem or something else, call (817) 674-6552. We’ll tell you what we’d need to inspect and what it costs to put eyes on it.
FAQs
A properly welded and painted joint on an Elite gate in Coppell should last 8 to 12 years, provided the posts don’t shift and the gate doesn’t get hit by wind loads pushing beyond its rating. The welds that fail early are almost always from poor fit-up or paint that chipped off and let moisture in. We grind, weld, and paint in the same visit, and our paint match is close enough that most homeowners can’t spot the repair from five feet away.
Most cracked welds can be repaired without replacing the gate. In over 22,000 gate jobs since 2014, we’ve only recommended full replacement when the steel itself is rusted through in multiple places or the frame is so twisted that re-squaring it would cost more than new steel. A single cracked hinge weld is a straightforward repair. Call (817) 674-6552 and we can tell you over the phone which situation you’re likely in.
Most single-joint weld repairs are done in 2 to 3 hours from the time the technician arrives. A full mounting-plate fabrication might push to half a day because we’re cutting, drilling, and painting steel on-site. You get a written time estimate alongside the written price before work starts.
We carry common hinge plates, raw steel stock, and weld consumables on every truck. If your Elite gate needs a specific OEM bracket we don’t have, we can usually fabricate a stronger equivalent same-day. For operator-specific parts like arms and chains, we stock Elite components for the SL3000, SL4000, and CSW200 lines, and we also keep parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls operators. If it’s an unusual Elite series part, we’ll tell you upfront what the lead time is before you pay a dollar.
Find it, price it, fix it, document it – in that order. That’s how Adrian Vance runs every weld job we take in Coppell, and it’s how you’ll know what you’re paying before the grinder ever comes off the truck. Call (817) 674-6552 for a free estimate.
