BFT Access Control Installation: The Coppell Owner’s Guide

BFT access control installation in Coppell typically runs $420 to $980, depending on whether we’re replacing a failed keypad, integrating a new card reader, or wiring a full entry system with exit loops and safety edges. We stock BFT-compatible parts on the truck and can usually have a technician at your property the same day you call. Most Coppell homeowners discover a problem the hard way: the keypad stops accepting the code, the card reader blinks red instead of green, or the gate simply ignores every input and sits there.

Here’s the thing about BFT systems. The motors are built well. The control boards hold up. What fails first, almost without exception, is the access control layer itself: keypads, readers, antenna modules, and the wiring connections between them. Water gets in. Ants build nests. A power surge from one of our Texas thunderstorms takes out the board. The good news is that BFT makes this stuff modular, which means you rarely need a whole new operator. You usually need the right part matched to your exact BFT series, installed by someone who can read the wiring diagram and document what they changed.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

BFT has a few distinct series, and this is where we see Coppell owners get burned by generic online parts. A keypad for a BFT RIGEL 5 isn’t necessarily compatible with an older BFT DEIMOS or a newer BFT SUB. The bus protocol changed across generations, and we’ve pulled enough aftermarket keypads out of gates to know the cheap ones often use a different voltage tolerance than the factory board expects.

If you’re looking at your unit, check the metal plate or the inside cover. BFT stamps the model there: RIGEL 5, RIGEL 6, SUB, DEIMOS, LUX, or the BFT T-BOX control line. That model number determines the access control parts we order. BFT also uses a two-wire bus system for many of its peripherals, which means the keypad, reader, and expansion modules chain off the main board on the same pair of wires. If one connection corrodes, everything downstream goes dark. That’s why we photograph every connection during installation and include the photo log in your job record.

We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with BFT. We work with OEM BFT parts when available and quality aftermarket equivalents when the OEM part is discontinued or backordered. We’ll tell you which one we’re quoting and why before we touch a wire.

Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing

Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing
  • The keypad accepts the code intermittently. This usually points to a failing keypad membrane or a corroded connector at the board. In Coppell’s humidity cycles, we see condensation inside the keypad housing even on units rated for outdoor use.
  • A card reader flashes red but doesn’t activate the gate. The reader may have lost its programming, or the antenna module isn’t communicating with the BFT control board. We’ve seen ants short a reader terminal more than once.
  • Nothing works after a storm. Lightning strikes nearby and the resulting surge finds its way into the low-voltage side of the board. The board may still power up, but the access control relay won’t fire, or the bus voltage is gone.
  • The gate opens but won’t close, or closes but won’t open. This could be a failed safety edge, a misaligned photo-eye, or an access control module firing only one direction. We test each input separately before condemning the board.
  • You have to press the remote three or four times. The receiver may be fine and the issue is a failing antenna or a weak connection upstream. We read the signal strength at the board before replacing anything.

Most of these symptoms appear gradually. Then one morning the gate just won’t move at all, and you’re standing there with a keypad that beeps but does nothing.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what BFT access control installation costs in Coppell right now:

Job Typical Installed Price
BFT keypad replacement (factory or equivalent) $420-$680
Card reader installation (standalone or bus-connected) $510-$790
Control board replacement and reprogramming $680-$980
Full access control retrofit (keypad + reader + board + antenna) $840-$1,450

The range depends on your BFT series, whether the wiring is intact, and whether we’re replacing one component or rebuilding the access layer. The price we quote is the price you pay. We write it down before work starts, you agree to it, and there’s no invoice surprise at the end. That’s Clause 1 of The Haven Standard, and we don’t waive it.

Every installation includes the part, the labor, programming to your existing remote codes, a photographed record of all connections before and after, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If anything about the installation isn’t right within a year, we come back and make it right. No fee, no argument, no expiration date inside that window.

Two things to know before you open that control box yourself. First, BFT boards run low-voltage control logic but the operator itself is powered by 110-volt or 208/230-volt supply lines, depending on your installation. If you don’t know which terminals are line voltage, the safest move is to not touch them. Second, reprogramming a BFT board isn’t just swapping wires. The bus address, the relay timing, the photo-eye input, the safety edge logic: get one jumper wrong and the gate either won’t move or moves when it shouldn’t.

What you can safely do is check for obvious things: ants or debris in the keypad, a popped breaker or GFCI, a bent key, a damaged card. If any of those are the cause, you just saved a service call. If they’re not, and the keypad still refuses to cooperate, call us at (817) 674-6552. We’ll price it before we start, and we’ll hand you the written quote before anyone picks up a screwdriver.
